David Miliband joins us and Labour students for campaigning in Headingley

David Miliband and Headingley Labour team with Labour students

Today, David Milliband was in Leeds and chose to spend some of his time campaigning for Labour in Headingley. We chose a student area and were accompanied by students from LU and LMU. Cllr Neil Walshaw was with us and we talked to students on the doorstep about their views and issues.

It was good campaigning weather, bright and sunny and David was recognised by passers by and some stopped to talk to him. Cars tooted and we got several waves from drivers.

It was a well spent hour or so and we were accompanied by Anna from regional office and a photographer from Leeds Students (we’ll track these down soon!)

Thank you to David, Labour students and everyone else for coming along.

Another step forwards for Headingley Labour party.

Weetwood fundraising meal at Olive Tree – 6th November

We are holding our first fundraising event for the 2012 local election at the Olive Tree (Greek Restaurant, Otley Road) on Sunday 6th November from 6pm.

Tickets are £20 and we are hoping to raise £300!

Doreen Illingworth (Weetwood local election candidate), John Battle (former Leeds West MP), Neil Walshaw (Cllr in Headingley) and new Headingley candidate Janette Walker are joining us.

So you’ll find plenty of opportunities to eat good food, have nice drinks and let us know what you would like a Labour councillor to do for Weetwood.

Headingley and Weetwood local election candidates selected

A short post just to say that Janette Walker won Headingley and Doreen Illingworth won Weetwood at the candidate selection meeting on Wednesday 5th Oct at the HEART centre.

This was done by Labour party members voting after candidates gave a speech and answered questions.

This means they will act as candidates for the Labour Party at the local elections in both wards, due to be held in May 2012. And if we win that, then we get two more Labour councillors on the council!

Congratulations to both candidates, we’ll be putting lots more information about the candidates and our campaigns on this blog (with pictures) soon.

So watch this space!
