Rain rain rain

This rain just doesn’t seem to stop, so we’ve decided to call voters instead of brave the rain. We have been out most days, but even team Labour can only endure so much. And no-one wants a soggy leaflet.

The good news is that tomorrow the weather is going to be sunny! So we’ll be out tomorrow, knocking on doors and talking to voters in Headingley.

Campaigning for Janette Walker in Headingley with Ed Balls MP

On Friday April 27, Ed Balls MP for Morley and Outwood and Shadow Chancellor made his way up to Headingley to join Janette Walker, Labour candidate, and local activists for a big campaigning session.

Ed Balls MP with Janette Walker, Headingley Labour candidate and local team

It rained a lot, but undeterred we spoke with tens of householders about local issues, the local election and lots of national issues too. Ed was a big draw with lots of people a bit taken back to see the shadow chancellor on their doorstep.

Many disillusioned Lib Dem voters are switching to Labour. People who have never voted are planning on voting and young people in particular are getting behind Labour. It’s a very positive mood.

There are only a few days left to the election and we are out campaigning most days. If you can join us at the last-minute for a bit of door-knocking, leafleting on election day or anything else, please get in touch!

Election is on Thursday 3 May!

Leafleting over Easter and before (come and get involved!)

Over the weekend of 31 March, Headingley Weetwood branch members delivered leaflets over four sessions. All together 19 people helped out over two days and delivered 2000 copies of Doreen’s election address.

We were lucky to have largely dry weather with just some showers on Saturday morning.

Over Easter we delivered more leaflets to the Filterbed site and the Parkstones.

We’re getting close to election time now (3rd May) and there are still thousands more leaflets to deliver. Each week more and more Labour supporters (new and old) are coming out to help us, but we still need more hands on deck (so to speak).

If you’d like to give us a hand, please come along to a session. We are a friendly bunch!

Drop Paul – pc4817@gmail.com or Doreen – doreen.illo@demon.co.uk an email for more information.

David Miliband joins us and Labour students for campaigning in Headingley

David Miliband and Headingley Labour team with Labour students

Today, David Milliband was in Leeds and chose to spend some of his time campaigning for Labour in Headingley. We chose a student area and were accompanied by students from LU and LMU. Cllr Neil Walshaw was with us and we talked to students on the doorstep about their views and issues.

It was good campaigning weather, bright and sunny and David was recognised by passers by and some stopped to talk to him. Cars tooted and we got several waves from drivers.

It was a well spent hour or so and we were accompanied by Anna from regional office and a photographer from Leeds Students (we’ll track these down soon!)

Thank you to David, Labour students and everyone else for coming along.

Another step forwards for Headingley Labour party.

Campaigning on Sunday in Headingley

New candidate Janette Walker and Cllr Neil Walshaw

Over the weekend we started our regular door-knocking sessions, talking to people in Headingley and Weetwood.

In Headingley, Neil, Janette, Doreen, Stephen and Kieran were out on Woodland Park Road, Coniston Avenue and Balbec avenue.

We had lots of positive conversations with people and identified some more casework to keep Neil busy (one being a weed climbing up a lampost!)
